We had a similar issue where we’re automatically detecting Windows machines by searching Active Directory for our automated server documentation tool.
Several customers did state however that it was scanning Microsoft virtual cluster names and that was really slow.
We search the OperatingSystemName attribute in Active Directory but it seems that cluster is setting this to the same as the node’s operating system everything is the same as a real computer – I’m not sure we should be confident in searching the SPN for MSClusterVirtualServer…. It would be nice if there was an attibute that identified this as a “non-computer” computer…
